Dr Igwe Nwachuku

I am pleased to be joining the Practice at Modbury North Medical Centre where I hope to be working in the After hours.

My heritage is Nigerian. I obtained my primary medical certificate from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria qualifying in 1990 (MBBS)after an initial BSc degree in Pharmacology, 1987 from the same institution. Post graduate training was in Internal Medicine at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and I hold Associate fellowships of both the West African and Nigerian college of Physicians. I am also a holder of the prestigious diploma of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP), London College. Here in Australia, I obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2009.

My working life has spanned three continents with stints in Nigeria, the Caribbean and Australia. My experience has been in General Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Public health. Some of the highlights have been -running my own GP practice for nine years, playing a pivotal role as a Central facilitator in the WHO initiative for Polio eradication, running a diagnostic centre, working as an Emergency room physician for two years and as a Senior Registrar in Internal Medicine in a busy Teaching hospital.

I have had a keen interest in medical education and training. I was appointed College examiner by the RACGP in 2009, and a member of the PESCI panel which screens overseas trained doctors prior to working in Australia. For many years, I was a Medical Educator with the Adelaide to Outback GP training organisation and currently a Clinical Educator for 5th and 6th year medical students of the University of Adelaide. Clinical governance roles have included being Medical director and Initiator/Convener of the Doctors forum of the Flinders and Far North Doctors association. Finally, I have had the privilege of being an inaugural board member of the Country North SA Medicare Local which has now become the PHN.
